radiator mounting brackets

after numerous attempts at mounting my rad, i have a question-

the radiator mounts are plastic, and im having real trouble trying to support them with bracketry.......

there is a metal bracket behind the rad, holding the fan on. this bracket bolts onto the rad, and has three mounting points

will these take the weight of the rad, water and fan?

i could then ignore the old plastic rad mounts, and weld my own chassis mounts onto the metal ones

Assuming you are using the Micra Radiator (you didn't say () I would say not. The weight of the water together with the pull/push of the fan in operation would be too much.

Have you not seen our brackets Jumpy... they have been proved to stand up to a lot of abuse (lately) with no ill effects. They are quite easy to manufacture to!

Don't know if it helps, but this is how I have (just) fitted my radiator. It's a slightly the worse for wear VW Polo jobby, all alloy and plastic so it weights next to nothing... without water, anyway!

I'm hoping the aluminium strip fixings I made will hold up when it's filled and in use. I've fixed them between the welded-on brackets and the plastic mounting holes on the rad itself. Rescued attachment ST radiator.JPG

Humbug, did you just screw or tap the bolts into the plastic bosses on the rad? Or do the bolts go right through, ie the boss goes all the way from front to back?

Jumpy guy

There is a picture of my lower mounts in my photo archive.
I've used the two spigots on the bottom of the rad and the mounting rubbers from the Micra, (got em when I got the rad thinking they might come in useful )
Will get some of the top mounts and post them later.

thanks guys

im not sure what rad i have, but think its micra, pics in archive if someone could comfirm?

the problem is that the previous owner helpfully cut most of the plastic mounts off, which limits the fixings that i have....

think its going to have to be a combination of using the one rad mount, and the fan frame...

The plastic bosses are on both sides of the rad - I think they may be intended for mounting the fan. They don't go right through, and they were already tapped. There were 2 large self-tappers in when I got it, but I got 4 matching replacements and cut them down very slightly (wanted to avoid the embarrassment of pushing right through into the rad!)
