OBP pedal box return springs
Hi all,
Anybody using the OBP universal kit car pedal box?
The throttle pedal is going to need a return spring but it's proving a headache to sort out, anybody else had to do this? Also has anybody fitted
them to the brake and clutch pedals?
Any info would be really appreciated
Many thanks in advance

Why do you need a return spring on any of the pedals?
The Throttle should have a return spring at the throttle body or carburettor
The Clutch has a huge spring built into it that should return the pedal - whether it's cable or hydraulic
The Brakes will also return naturally
So I'm confused
Oh and a picture of the pedal box would help us provide some suggestions for spring location etc....

I've struggled with this. Fitted a spring just under the cable mounting so it stops the spring sliding off the pedal

So I'm just looking at the throttle pedal at the moment, and basically because it doesn't return via the throttle spring alone.

I was thinking some kind of torsion spring is what's required, but there isn't much room around the pivot. Any pictures of your solution
please MikeR?
Many thanks again

Ah, my obp pedal box is older than that and top mounted throttle. Sorry.

That's an unusual throttle pedal design
So when you press the pedal it pulls the throttle cable down - so you could put a compression spring under the back of the pedal or....
you could put a torsion spring, like the picture below, around the pivot bolt

Thanks for the replies.
Yes that is the type of thing I was looking at. The main problem is the lack of space either side of the pedal. OBP do a throttle spring for one of
there other pedal boxes but there just isn't the room on this one.
Will keep trawling the internet and see what I can dig up.
Thanks again

Mark,
Whilst I don't have the same OBP pedal box, I'm using a similar format generic pedal box in my RH build. On that there is provision for an
extension spring to be mounted in parallel with the throttle cable, so could you do something similar on yours? I did find an Austin Metro single
torsion spring that looked promising for adaptation onto my pedal but didn't bother in the end. There is also a Land Rover Defender throttle
spring available on eBay as another alternative.

For the Brake and Clutch pedals I modified the assembly to use a Rover Mini pedal return spring so they return to the stop position provided by the
pedal box housing. It's not that important in operation of the car, but during build with no hydraulics in place it made it much easier to
simulate the pedal function.

Fore the throttle, id still be inclined to focus on extra return spring at the carb end, and of course make sure your cable is routed without any
twist that is causing drag
