cold air intake filters

Hi,
I have zx9r motorbike carbs on my vauxhall Red top with a Pipercross PX 500 filter coming out of bonnet.
The filter damages quickly when covered.Somebody suggested i go with cold air filters.I was interested in opinions as i am quite
ignorant on this matter.
Thanks

Take a look at "air intake system" in my photo archive. I have pretty much finished a change from a PX600 sausage through the side of the bonnet to a cold air feed from the front. I have not had the car running so I do not know if there is a rich \ lean issue using a turbo plenum in NA form. I did it mainly for noise. Feed comes from above the rad through the front grill. The top of the scoop is closed off once the nose cone is fitted.
