Alloy crank pulley for a crossflow
I am going to fit megajolt ignition to my car over the winter but need to replace the tin crankpulley in order to fit a toothed wheel. I found an
offcut of alloy bar in my workshop and have started to make a crank pulley with it.I am going to leave a spigot to fit the toothed wheel which came
from a sierra , and make a steel centre to fit the crank and run against the seal.I will shrink and key the two parts together .
Can anyone see any problems with this idea?
My only concern is whether the weight is required to act as a crank damper and how important the dynamic balance of it would be.

Paul,
I've seen a xflow engine with a bike sprocket welded to tinplate pulley.
Maybe that would solve your problem rather than making one up.
I also think a Granada timing plate can be had new for about £12 from Ford, maybe this can be fixed on?

That looks like a good idea for a cheap timing wheel.I decided to use the sierra toothed wheel and have now finished the alumiium pulley and shrunk it
on.
It is not a lot lighter than the tin pulley but hopefully much stronger, as i never trusted the tin pulley.
All I have to do now is make a bracket for the crank sensor.
