clutch release bearings
The story so far.
Mating alfa V6 to type 9 with homemade belhousing.
The type 9 has a square ended clutch release bearing hub thingy, and the springs on the alfa pressure plate are also straight.
I have been told that if the springs are straight , then a round ended bearing hub is needed, and if the springs are curved, a flat edged hub is
needed.
Is this correct ?
If so, can you get a round edged release bearing hub to fit a type 9
Next task. I think the type 9 I have is from a rear wheel drive 2.8 Sierra. Is this different in any way to your run of the mill 2.0 sierra type 9.
I remember reading about diffrent shaft lengths ?
Are any stronger, weaker, better than others ?
All and any comments welcome

If it's from a 2.8 Sierra, then the input shaft is a little bit longer, the gearset is a little stronger and 1st gear is better suited for our
cars (slightly longer (?) ratio so 1st actually becomes useful and you're not straight into second)....

Come on someone must know.
If my clutch springs are flat, do i need a round ended clutch release bearing or will the flat ended one i already have do.
Do it make ant difference ?

I don't remember which it was but my nephew has a 1.8cvh Sierra which had the wrong thrust bearing fitted and it ate through the diaphragm
spring and left him stranded without gears.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hi Trev,
I think your right Trev, a flat needs a curve and vice versa.
I fitted a concentric unit from a Mundano (flat bearing) to my 907 (flat clutch fingers).
I got over the problem by fitting a bronze insert into the face of the thrust bearing,
nicely curved on my mates mill. (see pic)

Very pretty indeed.
Is there any 23 splined ones that have a rounded face, or are they all flat ?

Don't know the answer to that one, sorry.
Good luck with the Alfa though, I like Alfa's.
