Fitting Propshaft
Im trying to fit a propshaft to my xflow powered striker but can't work out how to without removing the engine or axle.
The prop seems to be the right length and line up. The chassis at the axle end of the transmission tunel is very narrow.
If I fit the prop into the end of the gearbox and try to lift the flange on the end of the prop into position it hits the narrow chassis sections
either side of the transmission tunnel.
If I feed the prop down the transmission tunnel into position until it lines up with the axle I can't get the gearbox end of the prop down the
gearbox because its now too long.
Only way I can think of is to remove the axle and fit the prop gearbox end first then move the axle back into position.
Hope I'm not sounding too thick and you get what I'm on about.

Normally you push in the gearbox end first, if you push it right the way in you should be able to get the other end on the axle/diff. (i'm
assuming you have a X flow or T9 'box)
With the prop fitted you need at least 20mm of free play in the gearbox splines (to allow the engine to move slightly back and forth without coming to
a stop on the probshaft)
If you measure the prob, then the car, and you do not have 20mm ish MORE length in the car you have mounted your engine too far back.

Should the gearbox end of the prop slide down inside the gearbox by hand or does it need to be tapped into position.
Mine seems quite tight and needs tapping with a hammer to get it to slid down.
If i understand what you are saying I need to slide the prop into the gearbox past where it needs to go and then lift the prop and slide it back into
position.
Its a 4 speed escort gearbox and a english axle.

One of the joys of these little cars. Prop shaft into rear of transmission, should slide in fairley easily, put a little oil on the transmission
splines and some on the outside of the spline collar to lubricate the transmission rear seal.
