Still confused with cooling pipes for GSXR...

Still unsure about the cooling pipes for my GSXR engine. Also confused whether I should be installing an expansion tank or header with overflow??

I was thinking an expansion tank with pressure cap, and having the feed from bottom of the tank to a T in the lower pipe (to pump). Then the large pipe from the thermostat shall go to the radiator. Where should the small pipe from the thermostat go?

Should there be a return to the expansion tank? I have seen some pictures that do and others that don't.

Any help is much appreciated.

Do I need to install a temperature gauge?

On my gsxr engine, the small pipe pipe from the pump connects to the engine. There is a small pipe from the thermostat so I can connect this to the top of the tank like you have.

Is your clio tank an expansion tank with pressure cap? I am trying to get my head around the difference between header and expansion tanks.

That sounds fine. You should have an expansion tank/bottle that has a small bleed pipe at the top and a larger feed pipe at the bottom (most have those connections) The small pipe from the 'stat should go to the top (bleed pipe) of the expansion tank. If your radiator has a small bleed pipe that should be connected to it via a T; That allows any air in the system to bleed out into the expansion tank/bottle.

You don't need real "flow" through an expansion tank (there'll be a tiny bit through the bleed pipe) so just the one larger connection required.

The "full" level in the tank/bottle needs to be above the highest water connection on the engine.

Something like this then? Will this be ok?

25mm for and return from engine (25-32mm reducers to fit radiator).

8mm return from top of radiator to top of expansion tank with a T to 8mm from top of thermostat.

19mm from bottom of expansion tank to T piece in 25mm hose next to water pump.

Hi
This should work fine
We blanked off the small pipe from the left hand side of
the polo rad (cut it off and araldited a s/st screw in the hole)
on ours as there wasnt enough room under the nose cone.
works ok without it & has never overheated .
The T piece in the bottom hose can be pretty much anywhere
along the hose, whichever suits the best route to your
expansion tank.
Good luck

As above, do away with the small 8mm T and block the hole in the top of the rad, just run the bypass from thermo housing straight to top of expansion bottle, thats exactly how mine is piped up.
