Bike carb jet drilling
Good evening everyone.
Just checking before I wreck the wrong jets.
Please can anyone confirm that I have the correct jets out for drilling.
 
 
Jets in carb
ZXR600 carbs if anyone is interested and drilling to 1.7mm unless
someone has better info.

NO thats not the ones
the ones you drill are at the bottom of the needles / below the slides
What the needle slides through

What size engine do you have ? 1.7mm jets may be 2 big to start with

At the risk of being wrong, but stopping you making a mistake in the absence of better info , I think they are the pilot jets

Hi Jacko, the engine is a 1.8 Zetec.
What would you suggest?

NOT 1.7mm jets at a guess i would say 1.6mm / i would also suggest you ring Bogg Brothers for good info
They are very helpful and have a lot of experience with bike carbs

I`m also doing my ZX6R carbs at the mo and understand that I also need to raise the needles by 2 clicks. There are 6 cut outs on the needle stems, if
No.1 is the top cut out and No.6 is the bottom, as originally fitted they are at position 4. So my question is do I swap to position 2 or position 6?
I am trying to lift the needle up higher or lower into the larger hole in the main jets. Sorry to hijack this thread but it`s something Avagolen may
also need to consider.

Thanks for all of your reply's.
I was going to send the carbs to the famous Bogg Brothers and for about £35 they would do it for me.
I then decided to do it myself to save some money and not risk any damage in the post.
I will get the inlet manifold and mounting rubbers from them.
Chester Sports cars - from whom I got the Zetec, said they drill to 1.7mm for both 1.8 and 2.0 units when running
with there megajolt unit and map.
So yet again, thanks and a call to Bogg Brothers ASAP.

Raising by 2 would be position 6 mate, higher = richer

Too raise the needle you lower the clip so if its on no4 now you will have to go to 6
Its a game of give and take with lifting the needle or having bigger main jets
ie 1.6 jets needle at the middle clip hole
or say 1.65mm jets and needle clip at the top lowering the needle
ALL THIS WILL DEPEND ON DIFFERENT ENGINE SET UPS / ENGINES

I`m running a 2.0 Zetec with Fast Road kent cams. I`ve fitted 170 Main jets for now until I get it rolling roaded. So I`ll try position 6 for now and
can always change it again later.

Me again - Just taken one of the float bowls off and there are 2 jets that could be drilled.
The needle does not seem to line up with any of them.

I have ZX9 carbs on mine I gelieve they are 1.6 engine is a 1.8 zetec

A is your main jet. Unscrew it from the hexagonal part. That`s the one to replace or drill. For info I`ve just bought a set of 4 main jets off Ebay
for my ZX6R carbs with postage for less then a tenner so if you go wrong it`s not too expensive to fix!

To drill the jets put the drill in a vice and twist the jets by hand its not hard to do

And dont forget that if they are too big you can
solder them up and start again.
I have just done a set for mine,its easy.

I got the jets from a company called MPW, Beaconsfield Rd, Brighton, East Sussex. I think their user name is m-p-w. Search for "Mikuni Slot head
jet" and they sell all sizes. The jets were only 99p each, the rest was postage.
