4age stripdown

Hi All,

i'm finally underway on the rebuild (slowly)

i need to change the crankshaft bearings, and oil pump on my 4age.

But i've never strpeed a twin cam before.

I have set rthe engine to TDC, but i can't find any locking pin holes for the cams? only what appears to be some marks.

Can anyone point me to a how to manuall, to remove the timing belt and let me get to the oil pump.

how do i slacken off the tensioner?

i'm worried i'll remove the belt and the cams will move and pushj the vave into the pistons.

does any of that make sense?

Many thanks

Neil

the 4AGE should be a non-interference engine, so there wont be any issues with valves hitting the piston.

ok new question.

is there a trick to get the crank belt pulley off?

i tried a couple of screw drivers but its not budging and i don't want to bend the pulley.

many thanks

Couple of tricks I've used over the years.
Get a piece of softish wood and trim it so it can be wedged gently between the
cams to prevent them turning.
Secondly, using Tippex put marks on the belt and pulleys. 1 dot on the crank, two
and three dots on the cams.
Transfer the marks to a new belt and guranteed to get th timing spot on.
