What is this?

I have the sump off a vehicle, and on removing the fuel rail, this item fell to the ground. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this item is? I can't see where it fits. I have never seen a part like this. I hope this picture is acceptable. Thanks in advance. Rescued attachment WHAT IS THIS ....jpg

Crush tube or locating dowel? Can you give us some idea of scale? Is it 2mm long or 200mm??

Could it be used for locating something?

On my R1 engine there are 2 little pins used to locate the sump

Not sure how big it is but somethimes thin tubes have these around the end to support the tube and help it push on. Maybe a vac advance tube?

Cheers

It must be for the sump then used to position it. It is about 7 cm long, so as long as a long bolt I suppose! I will look tommorow as it was beginning to get dark as this item came out. Thanks again!!

It is a locating dowel.

Even with the poor photo, we casn see it as a tube with a split (allows for compression when pushed into a hole) as well as chamfering on the ends (makes it easier to push into a hole).

Defo a locating dowel

You find these on the bell housing flange and Cyclinder head etc to make sure they line up correctly. Possibly on SUMP to Block as well.
