Cooling Polo rad on Tiger Avon

Hi Chaps,
I have purchased a Polo rad which I am about to fit due to Tiger rad leaking and was wondering on peoples experiences of mounting of fans. I am planning on a puller as I want to fit an oil cooler also in front of the rad.

The questions,
What fan size have people generally used and find acceptable ?

What style of mounting do people use ?

The Polo rad fins are very close together and it seems a shame to force through the plastic tie type mounting straps, does this cause any known issues ?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can spare to the time to offer an upto date opinion or experience, as the archives seem to offer various suggestions

By the way this is on a 2lt zetec silver top in an Avon with about 170ish BHP

I fitted my fan to a Polo rad using the pull trhough ties. It worked, but I wouldn't do it that way again. Over time the fan shifts and deforms the fins and eventually will pull on the actual pipes themselves.

I'd be inclined to make a frame either from sheet ally or steel strap to support the fan and pick-up on the outer mouting lugs of the rad.

I have mine mounted t othe rad with 2 strips of 1" wide ali.

Bolt onto handy points on either side of the rad. Blank holes, I just 'self tapped' them with M6 bolts.

I put a bit of L section ali on the Tiger bottom rad mounts, drilled holes for the bottom lugs and rested the polo rad on that on a bit of rubber. Two nuts on the lugs stop it bouncing out.
At the top, teo bent ali mounts rivet to the front chassis rail and bolt in to the top two mounting lugs.
Across each pair of mounting lugs I put a square U section bit of ali and fitted a puller fan to that.

As said earlier its a case of brackets and bolts and attach where you you can.

I'm trying o find better pics of the metalwork between the fan and rad plus the mounts onto the chassis.
