Can anyone help??? Pleeeease. UPDATE - now sorted :D
If you see my previous thread here
Linky
I just can't get an RPM reading from MEGAJOLT on my PC screen. Also it wont adjust from 12 on the ignition advance box. Megajolt is connecting.
I have set up TPS.
I have been through my soldering again and again and can't find anything like a problem.
I have a track day on friday and rolling road session this week. Desperate to get going. Everything i try isn't working.
Does anyone have any ideas what i'm doing wrong or how to test or what to check on my MJ.
Car starts and runs on EDIS. I have wired PIP and SAW both ways to eliminate that. No difference...
Thanks
Dan
BTW: posted this on autosport labs forum but no reply

I would have to brush up on EDIS and MJ as well as see the circuit diagram to provide detailed help but here goes .....
from memory, EDIS will run engine in limp mode - ignition at 10 deg BTDC if it detects pip (the signal from trigger wheel in case I am calling it by
wrong name).
the megajolt does clever stuff that sends pulse to EDIS so that it can advance the timing.
presumably you are running in limp mode?
do you have timing lamp to verify this?
or is MJ running properly i.e. the igniotn is being advanced ... and your problkem is that you don't have an RPM signal?
Can you post relevant part of the circuit diagram?
Ideally you want an ocislloscope to see what the various signals are doing.
As a poor mans tool, can you solder up a LED with 10 K resistor - then put one side to 12 V and then the other end to the rpm signal - the LED should
flash if the line is being switched. (LED is dierectional so you should connect it one way).

Are both Megajolt and EDIS connected to the same (good!) ground point?

Yes they are.
I don't have a timing light. Must be in limp home mode... it runs on EDIS only so i guess thats what it's doing
Not advancing ignition at all. Not sure if it's a connection problem or a megajolt problem

Is the shielded cable only grounded at one end?
Are you using the shielding as a conductor? - shouldn't do this.
Have you got the pins in the edis plug the right way round, i.e. diagram with plug viewed from front or back? cant remember which way it is...
Sorry MJLJ PLug not edis
Not a granny and eggs moment, but some things to check.

Not sure about the grounding of the sheild. Will go check now.
Pins are all in the right place. Double checked this the other day after nearly making a mistake. lol.
Don't know what you mean about using sheild as a conductor??

Have you looked through autolabsports site ?
link
Check the wiring and the board components. after that I would try and reflash the firmware and load a differant base map.
you have got a map in it havnt you ? As it wont alter the advance unless its told to.

Had a good look through the website. How do i flash the firmware? Do i need to do this?
I have put a map on it and it appears in the configurator table as lot of red orange and yellow numbers

Which version is your Megajolt? It's possible you could have damaged something when it was connected up incorrectly.

Newest one i think. Got it end of December. Between xmas and new year.
I cant get the latest version of the config software so i'm using version V4.0.0 instead of V4.0.2 which is the newest one.
Not sure if it makes a difference. I managed to set up the TPS ok just cant get an RPM or advance reading. And it's not advancing either

No i'm sure they are correct. Do i need to load any software onto the unit first?
All i did was put the unit on the car and start setting it up.
Have i missed something?

Are you familiar with navigating directories under DOS?
You need to change directory cd to the directory your firmware is downloaded into, the same dir needs to contain hc08sprg.exe, then run the prog as
per the autosport labs page.

Not familiar with dos at all i'm afraid. I have the file hc08sprg etc etc. How do i make it load to the jolt? Sorry for all the dumb questions

EDIT: See bottom of post first
Im not IN THE SLIGHTEST familiar with flashing this particular bit of hardware.
I am from a computing background though and have flashed hundreds of bits of hardware.
If your trying to flash "something" with the executable file named "hc08sprg".
From what I can gather you will have the files in a certain folder (lets call it firmware) on your computer - on the main drive drive c:
To run the file named "hc08sprg" from dos, you would do the following
from the start box (bottom left of your screen) type in CMD and press enter.
this will bring up a black command window.
type in CD \ and press enter
then type in CD firmware and press enter (firmware is the name of the folder where the hc08sprg file is).
now type hc08sprg and press enter....this will start whatever the hc08sprg program is
(you will obviously have to have connected the device to which you wish to flash the firmware - and id check first that you can't
"brick" the device if you get it wrong)
EDIT: from a quick look on here http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_Firmware_Upgrade_Guide you need to also supply other parameters to the executable
file such as the com port and firmware version. You need to read up a bit prior to flashing it.

Not advancing ignition at all. Not sure if it's a connection problem or a megajolt problem
that would imply the VR sensor is wired correctly.
we need to find out if you have the PIP signal from the EDIS unit.
disconnect the MJ and use the LED as mentioned - see my u2u.
regarding the firmware in the MJ - if you are communicating with the unit, then surely it must have somethhing loaded - or did it come as a blank
chip?

UPDATE
after some replies on autosport labs i have managed to find the problem. Basically two of the chips wern't soldered properly. They had a
soldered joint but when told which circuit to test they weren't talking. Heated it p and tested again and voila!!
Thank you everyone for your help and comments
