v8 plumbing.... again!
hello,
a while back we did a carb swop, but due to small children and workm we've never really got much further. just finishing off the accelerator
linkage and getting everything set up and notic ed that we seem to have a spare pipe that doesnt go anywhere.
we thought we had everything connected up, but the overfloow from nthe topmof the rad doesnt have anywhere to go. on my old kit car this was vented
into the overflow tank through the top of the tank, should this go here? or should we be puytting this somrewhere else.
sorry for daft questions, but this has been a very slow learning curve for us!
I'll try to post some pics of the offending pipe.

you can see the pipe i n this one, just by the pliers. this comes from the top of the rad. any ideas?

The top of rad on on mine goes is just an overflow pipe. I have a 20lb cap on the Rad and a 15lb cap on the coolant reservoir tank (this tank it
linked into bottom and top hose).
If you have no reservoir then maybe an expansion bottle or just overflow?
There is no replacement for displacement...

My ideas - so dont trust them!!!!!
You seem to have the heater outlet on the rear of the inlet manifold connected back to the expansion bottle. I have this pipe blocked off and the
spare pipe ( if it comes from the top of the rad ) is connected back to the expansion bottle.

I would trust that more than the existing system which is just wrong.
You do not want the header with pressure differential like the one you have across those heater matrix connections.
The header should be tee'd into the Rad bottom hose not directly at a a pump suction I would blank off that rad connection and then tee into the
top hose and run that back to the header. Make sure you have a 3-4mm hole drilled in the upper section of the Tstat.
Your system may work but its not correct.
Edit to add - in the connection from the back of the manifold to the - w-pump if you decide to keep this and not blank it off - then fit a restriction
in the hose a bit of plastic stock with a 5mm hole drilled through it should do it to restrict the flow by passing the rad

thanks guys. thats seem to be a concensus about the rear connection into the bottle. will sort that.
regarding the host at the front, the water pump end, what effect would blanking this off too? I think i've seen installatiomn where both have
been done, will it make much difference.
