Oil to water cooler plumbing

Got one of these to fit to the Duratec

My question is, where is the best place to pull the cooling water supply from?

There is a bypass hose from the thermostat to the back of the head which would be a really easy place to take it from as it runs right past.

Or should it be taken from the bottom hose somewhere?

Cheers,
David

I have one of those on the capri v6, it is plumbed into the normal heater matrix supply. Quite good really as it help heat your oil up quickly as well as cool it as since the oils meant to be 80-90degs and thats water the coolant temp is it's the best of both worlds.

Thanks, the bypass hose is where the heater is normally plumbed in so it could be the ideal spot.

The heating and cooling is exactly why I went this way rather than a std one air to oil cooler which I think would keep it too cool. Plus this one cost £25 and if its good enough for cosworth to fit to their 300bhp duratec, its good enough for me

Also found on automatic 1275 A+Metros!

Looks like exactly the same part. Less than a fiver at a scrappy, if there's any Metros left, and the rarer auto.

They don't shift a lot of heat, if you are working the engine real hard. Find a marine oil/water exchanger if you need a proper item. Cheaper than a similar 'race part'.

Cheers,
Nev.
