Blacktop Cambelt!

I'm quite astounded at the price of a blacktop zetec cambelt kit. Thought £50 for a silvertop was steep but my local MF want £70 ofr the newer blacktop!

They are around £50~55 on the bay but with the postage on its up to near 70 bar again.

Any recommendations on a cheap source??

Steve

Just had a quick on Burton Power. They sell the HD kent cams ones for £40 + postage.

Part no. KCCB28 which is for 5/98 on (which I think is black top?)

Edited to say - ah, you mean the kit, which I guess means the tensioner as well?

One HERE, but be carefull there are two different belts, one for the motor with an idler down by the crank pulley, and one without, the later engines I think its July 2000 on, dont have the lower idler.
Rgds.

£70 every 50,000 miles or 10 years.

In that time/mileage i would have spent £5000 on fuel, £1600 on tyres and £220 changing oil/filter.

in that respect cambelts are a bargain

on a serious note, its not worth trying to save money on cheap belts, i always use Gates or QH

Mines a later (2002) without the lower idler but all the info I have googled points toward the belt being the same 98 on. All the kits with pics show 3 idlers in them.

Very confused now

They may well be the same, but I was asked when I bought mine at GK Ford, if it had a lower idler.

Just checked on the ford TIS system, on the later engines the two top idlers are slightly closer together, thus taking up the slack the lower idler would have. It doesn't specify the belt is different, so your googling is probably right, the belts are the same from 99 on....

I'll have a look at work tommorow. I've got one that the customer never turned up for and I didn't return to my supplier. I'll have to check if its the right one.
