Blacktop Cambelt??

I am getting my ST170 engine ready for the car and am wondering if the cambelt is the same as all other blacktops? And can I expect to have to buy a kit with idlers the same as a silvertop engine

Anyway its coming along now and heres how I've run the alternator and idler Rescued attachment front.jpg

If it's got plastic idlers, I'd replace them as a matter of course....

i've never done anything on a black top - but i'm curious why you don't get a lot shorter belt for the alternator and completely take out the top wheel (which i assume is an idler pully).

Water pump needs to run anticlockwise so an idler is needed. Want to keep the water pump standard and as henry intended.

Its the same layout as my blacktop, the idlers are a service item the manual does specify replacement, expecsive on the face of it, but cheaper than 16 Valves, a couple of pistons, head work......

Rgds.
Pete.

Is that auxiliary idler a standard item on the ST170? If not, where did it come from?

Its the ribbed one on the adjuster next to the alternator on the original setup. All I've done is swap the wheel for the smooth one thats elsewhere on the focus serpentine belt. The other one is steel though and this one is plastic but as its come off the original setup it should be OK.. Yes??

looks the same as my focus. 70 odd for a kit and for piece of mind and like r1_pete said cheaper than head and valves etc
