I generally say the same thing to anyone who asks about getting max power out of a Kent/crossflow! Work out how much money is required to get the required power from the old engine - then spend it on a much more modern engine. I like my x-flow, but I'm not going to spend any more money on it.

A modern engine is more efficient, giving more power out of the box, with the added bonus of much higher reliability and greater potential for tuning.

Even the Xflo is a lot more tuneable than the Pinto

Donkervoort build in the nineties the S8AT and D10 which had a turbocharged pinto with a compresion ratio of 8,2:1 and a Garrett T3 turbo running at 0,7bar, intercooler, Cosworth pistons, a new fuel injection system (Bosch LE jetronic) and a 3 way catalytic convertor, it produced 170hp in 2l form and 190hp when it was enlarged to 2160cc (=93,00x79,54 mm).

You can supercharge anything in theory as long as its a reasonably strong bottom end. Max boost on stock internals should be around 6psi. Still thats enough to give you a real improvement in VE.

i have a 190 bhp pinto here. it's got about 8,000 miles on it & i paid much less than half of what it cost to build - i think the build cost was around the 7k mark

so very shortly i will have a nice low mileage 1700 x-flow on bike carbs for sale
