Anyone done a DIY electric shifter for a bec? It seems the ones on the market are a bit dear, was thinking of a locost option. I'm not talking about full-throttle upshifts, just an actuator to throw the gear lever fore/back when you press a button each side of the steering wheel.

Solenoid + control box + paddles/buttons = shifter?

I have not made one myself but have seen them constructed using ford central door locking solinodes.

Should be pretty simple if you are changing up only, something for the summer.

Why not buy a proper one?

One on ebay at the moment, currently 100 quid - tend to go for about 150 or so second hand, that's what I got mine for.

Wow, that's a lot cheaper, and at that price you're absolutely right.

Quick related question while I have your attention - how do you find neutral with a clicker system? Does it have to do a half-throw or do most superbike engines simply shift up one click from 1st and presto, neutral? (never ridden anything bigger than a 125... )

Apparently a practiced dab of the button is the way to find neutral, on mine i will also have a simple cable operated neutral lever, hence extra hole in bellcrank
