Type 9 spacer
gregs - 19/3/08 at 07:47 PM

All - is there a spacer plate available to allow a V6 (long input shaft) type 9 box to be used on a 4 pot? Looking at the options before forking out on a custom box!

I've read that spacers are available, but can't find one anywhere. I think you need 25mm and this would be easiest between bellhousing and gearbox.

I've also read you can just chop 25mm off the imput shaft with a grinder.

Something like this available from Caterham I believe. Rescued attachment 1AV.JPG

Dusty those are my photo's..
and its a Caterham spacer that i got from this site second hand. The caterham spacer which is 30mm thick with a 10mm lip came with longer bolts and a gasket.
Fits easily using the V6 box and the standard 4 pot bell housing.
You may need the longer Capri release bearing of a manual adjusting clutch cable to get the bite position correct.

If someone is good with CAD then it is a simple copy of the bell housing mounting face 30mm thick with locating lip and recess for gear selector.

thanks all - I might be being thick, but what does the rebate do? does it take in the front of the gearbox?- could I not open that shape up to full depth rather than just a rebate? - just thinking it might be easier to make....

The rebate takes the input shaft bearing retainer/clutch release sleeve assembly which normally locates the bell housing, and the stub that supports the layshaft bearing on the V6 boxes.

If you opened the rebate up to full depth you wouldn't be able to create the lip on the other side of the spacer that locates the bell housing (and accurate location is very important).

ok- thanks for that, think the item in question is this

here

a bit steep for what it is, but if it saves me forking out for a custom box, then it might be good value (ish).

Shameless. With acknowledgement to snapper for the stolen photo's.

Morning Guys,

Bumping up this old thread, Do caterham still do a spacer like this? has anyone got one they would like to sell?

Or..

Has anyone a CAD drawing for the Ford Type 9 mounting face that they would be willing to share?

Even a .PDF or .JPG version that i can import into CAD to Pitch the input shaft & 4 locating holes against each other?

Many thanks!
