Throttle cable problem on a bike carb
David Jenkins - 9/2/08 at 04:26 PM

Now that my bike carbs are mounted I have a new problem to sort out. The throttle cable comes off the top of the carbs, and even with a proper 90-degree bend it comes up higher than the bonnet line. The fixing can be seen on the nearest edge of the carbs, just above the TPS.

Has anyone here modified carbs like these (CBR600) so that the throttle cable is fixed in a different position?

I'm thinking that I'll have to come off the bottom of the carbs to get rid of all clearance problems.

Would it be possible to fit/build some kind of rocker to the carbs so the cable is attached at the bottom and pulls the linkage up.

Thinking it over, I might build in a pulley to turn the cable through 180 degrees - still mulling it over!

David have you got room for a "conduit" a 90 degree bend in a piece of steel tubing similar on some bike throttle cables at the twistgrip end? Mel

ON the R1 carbs, there are 2 cables (push/pull) so they are attatched to like a circular pulley on the throttle spindle. So on my car I just used 1 cable & it went 3/4 the way round the throttle spindle thing. The cable outer went to a plate bolted between the bottom of the front two carbs. Sorry if that sounds a bit convoluted - & may all be completely irrelevant to you. But I'll try & find a picture

it can just be seen on there

Needs help with a bit of a linkage problem?

I just have a 90 degree piece of tube on my blackbird (same as yours except size) carbs. I have however seen people use these:

for getting round the problem

Mel,

The throttle cable kit I bought off ebay has a few bends - but they're physically quite large so there's little benefit. Previous experience of bends and the resistance they can cause makes me reluctant to go for anything more extreme.

Gazza,

I was looking for a quick fix, rather than me having to engage brain again!

Currently the pulley fixed to the existing plate is looking favourite...

cheers,
David

Wasn't that one on the back of England's Glory?

Most of the time I prefer to tick along in neutral...
