Engine - Chassis clearance
Dave Bailey - 2/2/08 at 09:56 PM

I know there is no easy or stright forward answer to this question but I am really struggling with Engine to chassis clearance. I am using the std round 52mm ford mounts on a Zetec. The two areas of clearance I have trouble with is at the rear of the engine, the bell housing to footwell (drivers side) where I have about 8mm clearance front rear movement and at the front of the engine on the opposite side where the dry sump pump pulley has about the same clearance but left right movement of the engine. Anyone got any experience of how much the motor is likely to move. I thought I was o.k. but reading PPC this month the Westfield install article states that half inch chassis clearance to a turbo they have is not enough. Any advice would be good.

thanks
Dave B

on my vauxhall 16v XE installation I have only 7 or 8mm between the end of my clutch master cylinder and my bellhousing and they have never touched.

I have used an uprated gearbox mount to limit fore and aft movement though
