OK, i want some black wheels for my locost (in a few months time) and not so keen on alloys as every car has them so was wondering about steels
(painted matt black for that racing look!) which are (i have been told) lighter than alloys.
Most 13" wheels on ebay are for FWD escorts so i was wondering what would work. What offset are RS alloys? Looking for 6x13's or
7x13's but the correct offset so they stick out and fill the arches properly like this:

I have some black 14" steel wheels im not using but they were off my old civic. If they would fit you can have them
Edit to say: Not sure what the offset is on them but il have a look when i get home if your interested

cheers but i would rather stick with 13" unless i can't find any then i may be stuck with 14's.
Talking of 14's i really like and would use the sierra steels which have big holes rather than a row of small holes all the way round. Anyone got
a pic of them or any they don't want? Down souf if poss!
I think they are off a LX
NOT like these std sierra wheels:

i was looking for some steel wheels a while back like the star mag wheels on the minis. i couldnt find any anywhere so i cut up some steel rims and
welded a band in to make them wider. then had the center lazer cut and welded them back in they look the biz.but iam not to sure if there ok to use
but they look good .

Banded wheels eh!! The Old Skool Ford lot use them and yes they look very nice but i'm not sure they're legal.

You will have a great deal of trouble finding road legal tyres at a sensible price for 7"x13" wheels.
Steel wheels are usually twice the weight a decent alloy wheel and more than 3 times heavier than a really good design of competition alloy.
It is true some alloys wheels are very heavy but g** knows what alloy they are made from.
Banded wheels, they died out in the mid1970s --- nasty dangerous things now highly illegal.

I have been told by a few mechanics that steels are usually lighter, hey ho!!
Maybe 14's with 185/60/14's will be ok?
What about Wellers? Up to 10x13!

Ahhh yes!! Wellers, forgot about them! They do racing wheels in all sizes if i remember. Nice one!

How about these:
is 15 more "sticky out" than 16? You can tell i'm really technically minded can't you!

dont quote me but I think you can fit ford offset wheels back to front to get pug type offset so they sit out further.
my robinhood needs a pug offset and I read of at least one chap who fitted ford steels the wrong way round. may have been just to set the car on the
ground tho rather than actually drive on them.
Stu
looks interesting, ot the ones i was thinking about but they would be ok. Were they off a Sierra?
I'm going on me hols for a few weeks tomorow so i'll keep them in mind.
Cheers
Hi
They are off a Sierra - a 90 sapphire LX.
I'm on hols as well for a couple of weeks, so if you want them get in touch early September.
Cheers

Iistr D Type wheels were magnesium apart from the bit for the peg drive.

Have a look HERE for light weight Weller steel wheels.
Just for reference one of my 14" alloy wheels with a 185/60 tyre weighs 13kg.

Cheers, i'll have a think and i'll be in touch.
i tried going down the 13x 5.5 j steels with 185 x 60tyres and they weighed about 11kgs each and becuae of the way they were made i had clearence
problems even using standard cliapers
i am now using the wheels you have in youre first picture in 13 x6 with 185 x 60 yokos a48r and they weighed 9.5 kg each
you might have to adjust youre front arches a bit, but i only needed to lightly take a file to the front claipers and they worked a treat. and i
painted them black and they look the muts
