Question about my new toy
Imagine my disapointment when the number on the block of the engine says 1.1 its a 1989 fiesta ohv
Not enough cubes.
The engine looks a lot like the xflow are they simlar ?
The car looks like it was made around the engine and I just wont get anything bigger in there. So was thinking of 1700cc xflow.
Whats the going rate for a 1600 with a 711 casting and what car am I likley to find one in ? played with cvh's and zetecs but nothing much older.
are they expensive to rebuild ?
Cheers in advance
i've got an fzr1000, that should fit.
To be honest I just want it on the road for asap. So dont fancey the work in making it rwd. Plus I am building out side.
So you are going Bec then Oh good I look forward to a ride How long untill your asking dave on how to turbo it
i'll let you into a secret, i have another mk chassis, the blue one is staying the same
A year or so year back I compared my 1600 crossflow with a 1.3 OHV (HCS) from a 1990 Ford Escort. The old crossflow is of surprisingly bigger
dimensions than the later engines. I was comparing the rocker gear to see if was interchangable and it wasn't even close. The size difference was
marked. The length of the rocker shaft was shorter by what seemed like a couple of inches at least from memory. The adjusting screws were much smaller
in scale too.
The newer OHVs were a fair bit smaller.
Basically if its already a very tight squeeze then you may have to do a bit more bodging than you expect to get a crossflow in there.
I can give you some rough dimensions for a 1600 crossflow tomorrow evening if you like as its still on the stand in my garage.
Thanks Rich, Thats the sort of thing I was after. Looks like I am looking for a 1.3 ohv fiesta then.
The 1.3 in my Escort was a nice little revvy engine. Had loads more character than the 16 valve zetec that the next Escort I bought has. Thats despite
having only two thirds of the horse power of the zetec.
Saying that have you considered the 1.25 zetec? Ford fitted that to the Ka as well as the OHV so it must be of a similar tiny size. Reckon the 1.3 8
valver would be more fun to drive though
I must get round to changing my avatar.....
Yeh 1.3 it is.
And should be good for pre 1995 tests.
Very easy to wire. The ignition on the carb version has just two wires to make it run, live and earth I use them to run al sorts of things
Good choice of car. I love my Jester, good simple fun.
Any questions about the build / design, just ask.
Lots of info over at my blog

Cheers for now,
Trev.

The engine you have is from the Valencia family of engines --- very good engine but other than fitting the 1300 version it really hasn't much
potential.
Fiesta Mk1 1600 xflos are different from normal RWD 1600 xflos they were modified to fit in place of the Valencia engine.
The 1600 is however a lot taller, slightly longer and heavier than the Valencia engine family.
Ka is built on a cut down Fiesta floor pan.
The XR2 1.6 'crossflow' will definately fit in a Jester, quite a few of them around with this engine.
You should be able to fit a Zetec or CVH in place of the Valencia HCS engine. CVH would probably be easiest to find from Fiesta/ Escort in a variety
of sizes, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6. Valencias go on forever but sound like a bag of nails .

They might fit in the Jester, but the Mk1 Fiesta (Jester donor) couldn't take the Zetec or CVH without cutting the chassis legs IIRC.
