ok i got one now... what do i do now? whats the spring/plunger thingy Dave Andrews talks about? the little thing in the pic seems to be a one-way
valve. but it rattles when shaken...
thanks
Rescued attachment cortina.jpg
The little bit is a PCV. It has a plunger in the end and a spring behind it. Vacuum in inlet manifold allows it to open and pulls fumes in to be burnt
off. Chuck that bit.
The PCV probs fitted into a round maybe 2" dia can (if sierra lump) - i posted a pic before of mine. Again chuck that (i had to knock mine left
to right a few times before it came uot of block.
Next up clean out the cortine trap and push it into hole in block. Mine is snug fit and seams to have sealed with no glue etc.
On top of new cortina trap there should be a rubber grommet. You will be able to get some pipe to be a tight fit in this. Just dont push it down too
far. Other end of pipe to catch tank.
If sump is well baffled then fingers crossed you wont have too many breathing problems. I still did and ended up putting a return line from catch tank
to sump (well actually low down in the block).
I hope this helps. The pics i posted recently will probs make more sense now.
cheers darren. the pcv valve in the picture seems to be broken as the spring seems to have gone. the valve inside it rattles when you shake it. so maybe it's ok using it as it is?
You will see on the end of the PCV there is a bit that is rolled over to retain the plunger. I carefully ground this lip off mine and tried to use
just the empty can (my thought was it had a useful tube union on the end) but found it still wasnt as good as the cortina breather / trap.
From my experience id chuck it. 1/2" bore pipe fits into the cortina bit - i like the idea of as large bore pipe as possible so no
restriction.
No probs trying what you think will work. Im no expert at all - just been trying loads of things out to find a soltion that works for me. i cant help
thinking though that a loose plunger in the PCV will be a restriction you can do without.
No the spring will be in there .
cut the botton off the pcv file it off the spring etc will come out
Jacko
ok thanks. very helpful..
