Gap filled out with Araldite Steel. I also used the same to fix the spacing nuts to the underside of the lever base - decided to do that after trying
to trial fit it using the nuts like washers, and they kept falling off in the tunnel.
I've been for a quick couple of miles and it seems to help reduce the throw quite a bit. It feels a little stiffer than before, but not too
much.

Did you do the remote mod as well? Well worth the effort if you struggle to reach the gear lever.
Did that quickshift mod, combined with the gear remote design on Dave Jenkins website. Moved my stick back 5", out from under the dash and shortened the throw a bit.
I moved the engine back as far as it would go and cut out the cross bar where the tunnel kinks up under the dash - that's where the lever ended up so I didn't need to move it back any further
