Pinto Exhaust Manifold
JoelP - 2/8/03 at 05:59 PM

On my set up the exhaust wants to go through the pedals etc...

what is good to make a new one from? will mild steel do or is stainless needed?

or does someone sell replacement manifolds for a 1600 pinto?

any help appreciated...

also i need to replace the air box on top cos it makes the engine too tall, can you get nice small ones? and what are the regs on it protruding through the bonnet?

If you mean the big round air filter with the paper element inside - yes you can get much smaller filters. Shiny chrome ones look nice but probably don't breathe that well, and the nuts can dent your bonnet, or you could get something like below. Some do have filters sticking through the bonnet (see the picture in this thread http://forum.locostbuilders.co.uk/xmb/viewthread.php?tid=6544 but I don't know what SVA says about it. If in doubt, register it first then cut the hole later. Rescued attachment post-6-1047663255.jpg

I'm sure the guys at MK engineering will sell you a stainless steel pinto exhaust for £300 inc vat. Their exhaust fits over the top side rail and so shouldn't get in the way.

for 300 quid it wants to be gold plated as well!

My pal says mild steel will do, so i guess a bodge it is!

Thanx all....

about the air intake, might just stick a sock over it for now!

or make that as well. plasma cutter should be working anyday now so it should be easy.

Are you using the standard cast manifold? Chop your downpipe and reposition it where you want it. Get some old pipes from the scrapyard to use for bends.

yours, Pete.

its the manifold itself that doesnt fit, my engine is way too far back.... should have measured better!

ive got the old pipe to cut up, but a few more wouldn't go amiss. off to scrappie i guess!

i need all four pipes to come straight out for a foot and then turn back cos the master cylinder is nearby.

Try these http://www.custom-chrome.co.uk/ they do complete manifolds or DIY kits and cool sidepipes
