Hi,
Not sure if this the best place to post this, but never mind!
I am currently in the process of fitting a zetec to my saab 96, however i need some custom engine mounts made up, is there anyone who would be willing
to make a set for me? Its not desperate yet as i need to work out the diemsions of the zetec mounting points in relation to the mountings in the
engine bay.
Also how much info would the person need? i will try and provide as much as possible!
Another question, how accurate do people who make thier own mounts find they need to be? a few mm i assume?
Any opinons anyone has would be gladly appreciated, want to get somewhere with this project as the car is looking really forlorn at home now!
Many thanks

Best take a few pics so folk can see what's involved as they all vary.
Might be a good idea to take the opportunity to fit some nice soft rubbers. I used transit diesel rubbers in my Falcon, their so soft its bliss
yeah that is true, they shouldn't be too bad, there is a mounting in the engine bay that i intend to put a rubber block on like you mention,
there are one each side
so i would need a mounting that fits to the zetec and ends in the right place for the rubber mounting, as to the diemensions i can't be specific
as i have not been able to measure yet, and i am four hours away from the car at the mo but will be able to take some pics in a few weeks, though i
will try and find a pic that is useable now!
How much are the transit diesel rubbers? any specific year?

I agre with Stuart on how to make them but this pic and dims of the mounts may help ?
i am inclined to think that way myself, i can't weld but my dad is good with an arc welder, if i can get his services for a day we could do it,
its a shame really as we find it difficult to find the time to work on my car or his sprite.
The pic is useful a good starting point, need to get this zetec in the car, it would be a good step forward!
As SAAB has been owned by GM for about 13 years and have been running with variants of the VX engines you could consider using a different VX?
sorry to say but my car is 30 years old this year! so it has a ford engine in it, an v4 which is not the best powerplant though it isn't a bad
engine,
this is why i am going with the zetec as it will bolt up to the saab gearbox with a bit of fiddling,
however my bigger prob at the moment is trying to get a clutch that will fit the saab input shaft, as the zetec one has a different spline pattern
i have deffo read somewhere that specailts can modify the clutch centre to take a different spline pattern but have been told that isn't
possible,
does anyone know what i can do? i don't think i can use the saab clutch, it won't really like the torque of the zetec tho i can get them
uprated anyway. I don't want t have to modify my input shaft, but it may be one of a few options.
oh does anyone know how a diaphram clutch works? what difference is there from normal?
