4age gearbox?
scutter - 25/11/06 at 06:40 PM

Evening folks, Which gearboxes bolt upto the Toyota 4age engines?, more importantly which will be the cheapest option as at the moment i've only a bare engine with no ancilleries, not even a flywheel.

well t50 and k50 will bolt on to 4age, well not all t50's and k50's but some do, i wont recomend you k50 caz it will not handle the power that teasily... t50 is the way..
there re 2 versions of t50's one has 22 splines, for the prop shaft, and other has 20....
22 spline one is rocommended as it is said that it has stronger internals....

I've got a type 9 with Quaife clubman gears installed - used the bell housing from RAW Engineering (also where my 4AGE engine came from). Box works a treat..... My engine is a "standard" 16V 4AGE with twin Webers fitted and OMEX ingition. Rescued attachment gearboxfittedwithnewbellhousing001DSCF0029.JPG

Anyone know what prices these are likely to cost, I already have a type 9 fitted to the crossflow.

If it gets too expensive I'll rebuild and sell the 4age, the Crossflow sounds great anyway.

Not exactly cheap to convert unfortunately.

You're looking at about £200 + VAT for the bell housing or £329 + VAT for a kit including the clutch from RAW Engineering.

I know they put up the price of the bell housing recently cus of material costs increasing.

I would say the conversion would be much easier but the T50 boxes are slightly better.
The big problem is getting hold of a Toyota box and prop joint.
The crossflows are a good little budget engine but dont come close to the smoothness and performance of a standard 4age.
Ask Rob Lane as he lives near me and his 1700cc 150bhp crossflow came out and was replaced by a standard injected 4age,it was much faster all round.
Just proves that bhp doesn't mean everything.

That Quaife box looks the dogs danglies but you must have over a grand in that box!

You need the bellhousing from a rwd Corolla GTS and a T50, T40, K50, or even apparently the 80s Supra box.
