Transaxle help
DIY Si - 14/10/06 at 09:17 PM

Any one know what would be required to run this in a GTr/xtr2 type car? Or what transaxle would be capable of 400+ bhp and 430+lbft? Oh, and I'd like to pay a tenner for it!

porker will handle that power, prob have to turn it upside down tho, renault UN1 ,s are fitted to gt40 replicas so may take it

DIY Si - 14/10/06 at 09:31 PM

Presumably the porker needs turning because they run backwards? Which models does/did the renault one came from?

Isn't that just a Duratec V6 with knobs on? In which case an MTX75 will hook up and take the power - no problem.

big_wasa - 14/10/06 at 09:42 PM

Dont think the Mtx75 would take it, seem to remember Noble are now using a custom made box because of this.

But I may be talking S***t

It should be a supercharged AJ V8, unless I put the wrong link up. Not sue anything'll come of it, but just exploring options. Possiblly really silly options!

RazMan - 14/10/06 at 10:05 PM

Si - It is indeed a V8 but I thought that it was based on the 3 litre Duratec V6 design which uses the MTX75.

big_wasa - I think that Noble decided the MTX75 was ok up to about 450 lbft but I have to admit I would have to run & hide if I put that setup on the rollers on full chat!

I've been looking at the v6, but I'd probably want it in the front and use the jag box. This engine, with a simple change of blower to a screw type will apparently put power by 40 bhp and torque by about the same, maybe a little more! Change the exhaust and inlet, bigger charge cooler, should be capapble of 470 or so bhp!

The Renault UN1 box was used in the Renault 25 amonst others, but probably the place you'd be most likely to find one would be a Renault 21 Turbo. The boxes weak point was it's input shaft if I remember correctly but beefed up replacements are available.
The Audi V6 transaxle (as used by Parallel Designs in their new Mura) might take that sort of BHP/Torque, in both cases you'd need a bespoke adapter plate.

Having spent a lot of time trawling the GT40 sites, a sensible cheap transaxle seems to be the Audi 016 and do some work on it. Anyone know which models had this in? I've been told the 100s and 5000(?)s do, but does anyone know what model is best to go for, as the GT40 sites are nearly all American and have different model numbers.

I am using an 016 from a 500E Audi, the 5 cylinder one. It has AAZ stamped on top of the bell housing, and I am told by a GT40 maufacturer that it is the ideal one.

Some details
here

Let me know if you need the dimensions of the attachment bolt positions.

Cheers

Mmm, I'd forgotten you'd done that bit of rather nice work. I'll probably have to do something similar with my combo, but I've not yet had a close look at the rear of the block on the jag V8 yet.
