Oil temperature sender
givemethebighammer - 19/9/06 at 07:47 PM

A zetec engine has two tapped holes into the block on the drivers side. The one on the right is normally used for the oil pressure sender and the one on the left has a blanking plug in it.

The questions are

is the blanked off plug on the left a suitable location for an oil temperature sender..

and if so what thread is the hole ?

thanks Rescued attachment blanking plugs offside.jpg

They should be the same thread.

Sorry to nick your thread but does your oil light come on before you start up??

you are referring to the two bosses along the bottom of the pic (right one tapped, left blackned)?

if so, they look different size to me.

Hi be verry carefull if using the one on the left as it is inline with the vertical feed for the head and i have seen where sombody has put a sensor in to far and blocked the vertical feed. If only fitting one sensor use the one on the right where ford fitted it.

The thread size is 1/4 npt and not as some say 1/4 bsp as on the older ford blocks.

cheers matt

In that case I'll find somewhere else to put the sender. I guess I could drill and tap the oil cooler sandwich plate.

thanks
