Where does this pipe go????

when we got the engine it was cut off so no idea where it goes,

my best guess, its the crankcase vent and would go into the air fliter box, to burn off any fumes.

Breather pipe,could let it vent into a catch tank.

Hang on, this sounds like two different answers? whats right or have i missed something!!??

original spec would see it being sucked on by the manifold vacuum, if you change to twin carbs etc you then have no easy place to connect it to, so you just need a catch tank to ensure you dont drop oil anywhere. On my old crossflow, it used to p*ss oil out big time!

some info for you.

Untill the 60's (ish) breathes were just vented into the atmosphere

But these days part of the emmissions on a modern engines emmissions require the vapour to go back into the engine and the waste gets burnt ( usually through the inlet manifold or air filter)

On racing engines one usually pops the vent pipe into a "catch" tank.

This is only because they don't need emmissions but don't want to leave any oily bitz on the Track!
