Another plumbing query

I hope to be getting my engine in within the next couple of month, and being without broadbean internet at home I thought I would get the questions asked now!

Is the plumbing diagram below for the pinto right? Some of its a guess, so i am fully expecting some of it to be wrong!

I am using a polo rad with only 2 large (top and bottom hose) connections and a small hose connection at the top for air bleed.



Top hose connects to thermostat housing

Bottom hose to water pump inlet

I am using twin 40s and the outlet in the manifold has been plugged. However if you think its a good idea to put a connection in for it then i am sure i can sort something out. If thats added where does it connect back to? I think it connects to the smaller inlet on the water pump IIRC.

I have the small outlet on the stat housing to go to the header tank return, along with the hose from the top of the rad. The only other place left to connect the header tank feed is the smaller water pump connection. Which is probably wrong!

Feel free to steal the dwg below and modify it as necessary to show me how wrong I am

Mine is like that but without the small outlet teed into the pipe from the radiator to the header tank.

Seems to work fine

Ta james. Evidently was being too specific with my seaching earlier!

Sounds like nick205 has done the same as I am planning as well. So all ok then

Yeah but Bob and I have done ours as below, as has Donut.


Just to confuse things!


I used the top outlet (through the manifold) to feed the header tank. The return going to the small inlet on the pump.

Then two large connections supply the radiator.

I've blocked off the rad outlet as it isn't necessary. Neither is the small connector on the thermostat. This is blocked by Ford on injection cars.

I've not used a 'T' piece joiner. So it's two separate circuits.
