Which Carbs for Pinto?
Macbeast - 20/5/06 at 07:41 AM

I have 1.6 Pinto with standard downdraught Weber 2V carb. Obviously I will want to go sidedraught if only to minimise underbonnet height. I see plenty of carbs for sale - 40DCOE31 etc but the numbers don't mean anything to me.

What should I be looking for, given that I'm not looking for major power, just low profile?

Bike carbs are the way forward. probably cheaper than weber side draught carbs, they will run better and will give you some more power anyway

You could go bike carbs!!

These are for a Zetec but you can easily get a Pinto one made.

Thanks guys

I suddenly remembered an Austin 7 special I saw in 1960, with 4 Amal bike carbs

Can you give me an idea of what I might have to pay for (modern ) bike carbs and maybe a type no so I can have a look on e-bay ?

Doing anything to a 1600 Pinto is a waste of time.

The numbers after the 40DCOE basically tell you what version the carburettor is. Different manufacturers years ago used DCOEs as std equipment and they had their own types. They mainly had different pump strokes and float level settings.

Heres a pic of my pair after a good clean. These are going on a 2 litre pinto.
