Is anyone out there running a 1600 Pinto
What the performance like
I've got a reconditioned 1600 given to me but don't know whether to use it or go for a 2 ltr and the expense to rebuild it
Is there a vast difference between the two
I want the car to end up quicker than most tin tops but doesn't need to be insanely quick

I'd go for the 2.0L pinto! (personally)
If it was a 1700 X-Flow - then that's a diff story, those things are insanely quick....
Or investigate a Zetec, cheap in price now and the extra's aren't that much expensive over and above a pinto!

I'm currently running a 1.6L Pinto w/ R1 Carbs.
It's fast enough to scare me.

Not sure about this but what about spending the money you would use on rebuilding a 2;tr, on performance tuning the 1600, you might find you can get
a lot of power out of the 1600, possible comparable to a std 2ltr. Just a thought, no facts of figures to back it up.

I got a ride in a locost with a standard 1600 engine a full sierra back end and lots of extra steel. it still went quick enough to leave the
tintops.
i am building a book car with 1600 pinto running webber 40s and possibly a fast road cam and I am looking forward to spritely performance!

i was planning a 1600cc MK but in the end i had a 2000cc in the garage. used this and part x'd for a 2100cc pinto well

I think it depends on your budget! If I had a fully reconded engine for free, like you I would use this and add bike carbs latter, or full FI.... (but
I am tight!)... Afer all you could change latter for a 2ltr pinto, engine mounts etc will all be the same...

Iv'e got a set of 32mm bike carbs I'd like to use just so I don't have have a hole in the top of the bonnet
Theres a chance a 2 ltr lump might be coming up
Is there really that much difference between the 1600 and 2000?
I think that you will find the 32mm cabs a mite restricted as the recommendations on here seem to be that you really should be using 36mm. As my 1600 is not running yet i cannot comment.
32mm are fine for a 1600.
You really want 36mm on a 2 litre to match the size of the inlet ports.
Hi mate im running a 1600 pinto with single webber carb with k&n filter, when i got it i loved it but soon got board and drove my mates 2.1 ltr pinto and this weekend im fitting a 2ltr engine with twin webbers and fast road cam then poss fit a megajolt ecu. its down to prefrance and when you are going to use the car, on the road its faster than most tin tops but when i took her on the track it was amazing in the corners but rubbish on the straight. if i wasnt going on the track with it i prob would leave the 1600 in her.
Yep been there had a 1640cc pinto with zx6r carbs not bad when on my own but with the amigos i go about with had to work it hard to keep
up.......... Then i fitted a 2040cc pinto with all the tricks that was fast but not what i was wanting
so i changed it all for a nissan 2.0l turbo with standard nissan ecu now this is bloody fast and im now happy i have a fast standard set up
1640cc pinto esti power 90/110 BHP
2040cc pinto esti power 130/155 BHP
1998cc nissan turbo esti power 215/225 BHP
