Is the car on the road ?

Ifso Any 2l zetec from a Focus or a Mondeo. If not stick to a pre Aug 95 silver top from a Mondeo because of emissions.

Costs will depend on your fabrication skills? ie the more you can do for your self the less it will cost.

Engine is going to cost £50-£300.
New thrust bearing £50
1.8 water pump £40
1.8 sump and pick up pipe £20
Induction (bike carbs) £350
Ignition (Megajolt) (+ edis4) £100
Exhaust manifold £300
plus lots of extras, engine mounts, alternator brackets ect ect

Like I say if you can make your own stuff prices will fall fast. The above spec should give you 165 bhp.

£250 would buy you a complete Nissan 200SX.This will give over 160 bhp. If you can again install it your self and find a donor with a mint boot you could end up selling the bits on ebay and getting what you need for free.

Swings and roundabouts.

If you go for a black top Zetec I don't think that aa Escort 1.8l pump will fit you will need to use another pully in place of the Aircon pump.

Take, big_wasas solution. But use a 1.8 litre zetec instead. No need to get a water pump, use the same flywheel and same sump from an escort and you will get 155bhp. R1 carbs etc, included. Make sure its either a 1.8 with 2 litre cams.

Fit your own cams from a mondeo, or just buy an XR3i lump.

Duratec doesn't bolt directly to RWD gearboxes so you would also need an (expensive) bellhousing. Nice engine though.

Wasa is on the right track with the Nissan. The SR20DE is good for 165 to 200 HP depending on year/model, SR20DET (the turbo) is 200 to 250 straight out of the box. If you do go for one buy a matched set...engine, 5 or 6 speed box, ECU, loom, front prop section. Downsides to this engine, - It is tall and not easy to shorten the sump, / It is very sensitive to regular oil changes. sludge can easily block the main oil feed to the head so pop the rocker cover and look at the condition of the cams and chain. take care of them and they really last. My bluebird (same engine) has 250,000 ks and is a strong as ever. RWD engines/5speed are from the facelift Silvia / 200SX S13 & S14. The S15 has the 6 speed. the early S13 had the older CA18...a good engine but not up there with the SR20.
