possible to 'pisch' with pinto?
iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 05:08 AM

I'm going to sound really amature with this one (becasue i am) but can you fit a dump valve to get the pisch sound when you change gear, to a pinto engine (or is it JUST turbos that have the luxury?)? or is there anyway to get that good sound on a pinto, thanks.

Sorry but you need the turbo, Ive seen/heard cars without a turbo making these "pisch" noise though, must be some gizmo from one of the boy racer mags, not a convincing noise though but a "pisch" non the less, you could go locost option and ask a passenger too time a sneeze with each gear change or maybe tape one and play it over a speaker ?

iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 06:15 AM

darn, it was worth a punt! cheers.

ch1ll1 - 27/4/06 at 06:20 AM

look on e-bay
they did sell loud p.a systems with a recording
so every time you took your foot of off the go fast pedal it made a silly noise !

Humbug - 27/4/06 at 06:22 AM

Don't know about a pinto, but I find it's possible to pish after several pints

iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 06:30 AM

hey! gimmie a break! i knew it was a silly question!! still thought i would post itthough - dont know why!

Danozeman - 27/4/06 at 06:37 AM

Iv got an old max power cd with the dump valve sound track on. Ill upload it later if you want

Sounds good through a decent stereo.

Seriously though you need this

Unless you turbo your pinto which would be much more fun. I would imagine a 2.1 turbo pinto to be quite rapid.

ch1ll1 - 27/4/06 at 06:50 AM

you could pipe one up to the brake servo
that would make a noise
when you hit the lorry in front of you !

iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 07:12 AM

i think i have that cd somewhere! sad sad

iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 07:13 AM

then again i could just put a turbo on. though i haven't even got my kit yet, thats friday. i may need to slow up my ideas

02GF74 - 27/4/06 at 07:35 AM

wot about rigging up soething using compressed air, either a compressor or a cylinder of compressed gas?

ch1ll1 - 27/4/06 at 07:43 AM

or you could make the noise your self !

all you have to do is sit in front of the wife's ( or mums) bedroom mirror grab a hair brush and go for it !
practise makes perfect

andyharding - 27/4/06 at 08:51 AM

Or we could be helpful and point him towards the wealth of information out there that tells you how to fit a turbo to your Pinto. Then he will get more power and the tissssh noise. Can't find the links now though sorry

iscmatt - 27/4/06 at 09:12 AM

aww you build my hopes then crash and burn! though that info would make an interesting read. not sure turbo is the best way for power? surely bike throtle bodies are a better option?

Danozeman - 27/4/06 at 09:25 AM

Has anyone on here actually turbo'd a pinto in a locost?? For some reason i seem to remember one.

Poor blikey. A sensible post often turns into a laugh.

jos - 27/4/06 at 09:47 AM

Mine, even without any mods pops and bangs on overrun when I take my foot off the throttle which I find LOADS more amusing than a dump valve.

Throw a little more fuel at the engine so theres some left over in the exhaust, add a little leak to the exhaust to allow a bit more air in and you'll soon get enjoyable sounds coming from your car.

That has got to be taking the p1ss!!!!! £150 for a speaker and some cable ties

If you want a good sound fit nice exhaust and decents carbs - nowtbetter.

Yes - Cosworth did one

Im sure Rob Allison turbo'd a pinto. Might be worth doing a search. havent seen him on the site for a while.

I'm seldom one to say 'No, don't do it.'

Locosts are individual things and whatever floats your boat etc.

However, 'don't do it.'

The car will get enough attention and give you enough pleasure without installing a gizmo to pretend to be a dump valve.

well to throw my £0.02 in...

I think they sound utterly stupid, even when it is a genuine wastegate.

The fake ones are a candidate for the most stupid boy-racer accessory I've ever seen.

The current title holder is a set of plastic wheel trims I saw at a show somewhere, designed to look like alloys, and with 'brake discs' stuck to the back which seemed to be made of spraypainted 7" vinyl records.
