i was just thinking,
has anyone on here ever built a kit car that uses NOS for that little bit extra power,(i dont want to sound like a little rude boy, as im not planning
on putting base bombs and a neon kit on my DAX) i would think that the answer is most probably no but i would like to hear your thoughts on NOSing
pintos, duretecs and other engines. what are the adv/dis-adv and other mods that would be needed etc im sure that you guys can think of more stuff
than i can, so allow those brains to work overtime on this thread.

i know carnut for sure runs 40-50 wet nos on his blackbird iirc engine. he was having problems keeping the bottle cool when we went drag racing last

i had a plate system on a 4barrell carbed rover a few years ago which i used 50hp jets in . on a 4 cyl thats about the limit before you need some form
of delivery control which can be done by moving the bottle away from the motor etc. ive still got my kit so its good value once youve bought it as you
can take it off easily enough but budget on around a grand for a decent system and £12 per pound for refills if you can find anyone to sell it to
you
good fun though but a great way of finding weak links in the transmission, i knacked a perfectly good box and clutch trying 100hp jets in my
old v8 avenger

Omega0684. Speak to wizards of nos (dodgy name i know) but they are the leading force of all things niterous in the UK.
Dont be tempted by cheaper american kits as they are useless for UK use. there standards dont qualify here so its legal to import the bottle, its
legal to fit it and run it but its not legal to refil it.
Id personally want some form of control on the system so that when it comes on it gently brings the system up to its full potential. otherwise the
resulting jolt to the engine and transmission is more likely to break something.
I will be using niterous on my car when its finished. just for the added scare factor.

One thing to check out before you do it, if your car is still going to be used on the road check what the insurance will be like. It may be different now but I remember about 3 years ago when someone on the Yahoo BEC list put NOS on his Megablade, hardly any of the kit car manufacturers would touch it. In the end I think he had to virtually take it all off (not just turn the bottle off) for road use to get reasonably priced insurance, and bolt it all back on for drag runs etc.
Read through a few old issues of CCC mag from around 1995, 96 and 97.
Dave Walker (Emerald Cams, M3D) did some work with Karl on programmable NOS on their old MK1 golf GTI.
Got it working well with mapped NOS, but then made a small cockup where the system didn't ramp down and dumped 100hp worth in at 1500revs and
broke the pistons.
A chap I used to know ran a Jeep Cherokee as a tow vehicle for his racer. It was the 4 ltr petrol and he stuck a thumping great turbo on it with
nitrous assist (full throttle switched the nitrous in once armed, then a preset boost level switched it back out again)
Could beat pretty much anything off the lights in normal driving.................and that was with an escort cossie on the trailer on the back!!!
Great for making fun of chavved corsas at the time!
