Almost finished the cleaning/painting my engine over the weekend:-
Big Red Engine
Red or orange?
Another fine example of digital photography turning red to orange? Mine did the same!
Looks really good mate.
Cheers,
James
It really is quite a bright red and I adjusted the white balance to make it look as close as possible to the real thing. The slightly orange hue is made worse by the tungsten lighting I think.
Very nice mate. I have the same in black. It's a shame we have to use them as they only get dirty and miscolour.
that's rather smart - matches the engine stand exaclty!! did you paint the pulleys silver as well?
Proper engine
Nice job - I see you have the same problem as me though - How to clean the carb? I still don't have the answer.
Cheers

Mines got a Silver theme
My carb was cleaned using a brass rotary brush and a Dremel polishing mop.

ayoungman - I've found need to report you - my eye's are bleeding!
That's a serious bit of bling!
Are you a CHAV?
Never any Kleenex when you need some
Carb cleaning could probably be quite theraputic with a dremmel and a mini wire brush, should get into all the cracks and bring it up quite nice!
Rich.
When I used an aerosol carb cleaner I sprayed it into the corners and it sprayed straight back into my eye. All I can say is it smarts a bit and the
wife compared me to Homer until the swelling went down.

I see you have your Pinto sideways on the engine stand. Have you tried turning it over or starting it like that?

Schrodinger - 29/11/05 at 01:10 PMISTR seeing an article a while back about cleaning carbs and it was suggested that acetone does a good job without too much effort.

andyharding - 29/11/05 at 01:24 PMI've turned it over to set the camel belt tension etc. Don't think I'd fancy starting it though

andyharding - 29/11/05 at 01:26 PMI've cleaned (degreased) the carb quite well but it still looks dull.
The best degreaser you will find is White Spirit. I can't even find gloves it won't eat through but it doesn't harm oil seals etc and will melt any grease/oil. I put it in a squirty bottle and use a paint brush. Worked great on the engine.

I'm still debating over a chromed timing belt cover. I wouldn't want to over do it !
I got the chroming done for Nowt ! Front wishbones and oil catch tank have also been Blinged
That picture is a bit old, there's a bit more polished stainless in there now !
