Aha gloat gloat!
NS Dev - 13/11/05 at 01:08 PM

Just gloating over the rather lovely spacers that I machined the other night for the throttle bodies on my XE. Needed to get some more induction length (and I need a mount for the ITG filter backplate so I couldn't just use longer trumpets, plus they are pricey and these werent, although I know have mucho ally swarf!!)...........think these should do the tricky-do!!

cheers Ben!

just got to see how big the hole in the bonnet needs to be now to get the air filter in!! tee hee.

how's yours going?

Ben_Copeland - 13/11/05 at 02:12 PM

Got 3 engines to pick from now, and a spare knackered one.

Can you reuse APR Rod bolts?

Slowly building up engine, need to buy some new bits. Heads pretty much finished.

Need some road cams !!!

zzrpowerd-locost - 13/11/05 at 02:35 PM

imo the only way to be safe is never reuse rod bolts however good they are! Least if their new theres no doubt

Ben_Copeland - 13/11/05 at 02:47 PM

Thats what i thought people would say. Bit like head bolts.

Bloody expensive tho !

NS Dev - 13/11/05 at 03:02 PM

ARP bolts should be fine to reuse, but if there is any doubt, then £55 for a set is cheap compared to a rod through the block! I have a used set, I'm still toying with reusing them!!

lovely clear answer there then!

Try these people

http://www.northbridgemotorsport.com/

(based in Leicester too Nat)

cheaper than ARP, supply some F1 teams etc

my Zetec set cost me about £50 (no postage as I collected them)

ahhh cheers!!

I'll give em a try!

thanks

Nat

Not really like head bolts. The std XE rod bolts are (apparently though they don't look it to me) torque to yield bolts, just like head bolts are.

Arp rod bolts (and others from Cosworth and Northfield (thanks for the link mr hammer!)) are NOT torque to yield, they are only tightened within their elastic limit, so should be reuseable.

The issue is if they have been overtightened (which is not hard to do with little spindly rod bolts) then they may not be reuseable.

Well the bottom end they are in, lost all of it's oil and seized up. So they might have got hot ?

Perhaps i'll just chuck them and save up

looks nice Nat, i could probably do with some spacers for my qed bodies, they have the short trumpets as well, probably as they were originally supplied for a chavalier and would have had clearance issues. I will have to wait and see. My block is painted, crank is balanced and I'm off shortly to finish popping the crank back in the freshly bored block with my new bearings, bolts etc etc. Hopefully I'll have time to get the steel rods and forged pistons in to, will have to see. Will try and get some piccies

Incidentally I now have those bits in my car that I need to send both you and Ben

Ned.
