Anyone know what an LT77 gearbox is? Who makes it and could it be mated to a chevy 350 engine?

Should be enough to get you to look for a proper gearbox.
Too quick for me
Broadly speeking the LT77 was the standard gearbox found mated to the 3.5 and 3.9 rover V8 in just about and car/vehicle.
Bolt a transfer box on the back and its virtually the same as ones used in landrovers. The same goes for the R380.
LT77 can also be found rover P6

Cheers chaps, that answers my question...

A forum specialising in V8 powered vehicles. As the RV8 is a popular unit there is a fair bit of info on there regarding the LT77.
I'm sure they can advise on the best route to go with the Chevvy/LT77 combination.
Assuming you use the LT77 in your Cobra then you'll probably need the remote gearchange from the Sherpa van or TVR. Something like the pic
below!

The gearbox used in the Rover P6 was a 4 speed unit , isn't the LT77 a 5 speed ? Also the 4 speed box wasn't too clever even with about 170BHP . Suspect it wouldn't last long with a Chevy lump
FORGET putting a LT77 (light transmission with 77mm between the shafts) in with a Chevy... It will rip its poor little heart out. Wayyyyyyy too much
power and torque.
A 3.9 rover and 200bhp is pushing its limits or thereabouts.
R380 is a much modified LT77 and somewhat better. However, I would think twice about even using that as well.
LT77 / R380 are Rover Boxes fitted to Land Rovers, Some range Rovers, SD1's, triumph TR7's and 8's (I think) and some MGB
RV8's.
You will need something much better like Tremec or simmilar.
Agree with Geoff
Have a look at http://www.tremec.com/English under "light" applications - these are upto approx 600lb ft torque

All of the P5 V8s (P5B) had the Borg Warner slushbox
