Does anyone know if there is only 1 Ford clutch lever? The levers on Mk2 Escort boxes, Capri 4-speed, and Type 9 appear to be identical. Is this assumption correct?

Problem is :-
I seem to have approx 25mm mismatch on the cable length, when fitted to the clutch footpedal.

Cable is new from W***f***d, and pedal/box s/h, but from same source.

Am using Capri 1.6 gbox (Type 3, according to Burton bible, Type 2 in Haynes manual), with 1600 xflow, Capri clutch assy and release bearing installed. Gbox has the bolt-on bellhousing same as per Type 9.

Very little free play on the clutch lever, indicating that the diaph spring plate is up against the release bearing.

Should I revert to the old xflow clutch assy? Corresponding release bearing looks like it would cause problems, as it occupies even more space.

Anyone else using the Capri gbox?

I have a clutch fork from a 5 speed type 9/N if that's of any use to you .. Your's for the cost of postage ..

The inner part of the cable seems too long, right?

Perhaps you need to fabricate a suitable spacer to fit on the engine bay side of the pedal box, to fill the gap at the end of the cable sheath?

That's what I did with mine. I didn't use westfield parts though.

We had the same prob, solved it by making a spacer similar to this from the Luego Velocity build manual.

The cable is standard Escort Mexico from local motorfactors Veco VJC765

Or you could look around for a different cable , i found quite a difference between cortina escort and capri cables when looking for one to fit my car .Both inners and outers varied in length., but cant remeber which was longer or shorter.I settled on a Cortina cable.

Dave -
No, too short. The outer sheath is "too long".

So, the solutions must be -
i) reduce the stop length on the pedal box,
ii) bend the existing clutch lever, or
iii) replace it with another, more suitable item.
