Im trying to get my head around the exhaust system for my pinto engined ZR. Funds dont allow a new stainless manifold and system. Ive been looking at
the std Sierra exhaust manifold. Has anyone ever made a downpipe for one of these? How did you do it? Where did you get the buts from etc? Any
pics?
Ive cut the downpipe flange off and bolted to manifold. I need to get it into one pipe in a short space and bring it straight down. Ive not done an
exhaust before so looking for inspiration / easy way to do it. All ideas gratefully recieved.
Are there better manifolds to use? RS2000 comes out too far to the back (my engine sits further back than normal so space very tight. Does Capri etc
manifold exit straight down? Is there another type that exits the manifold with one pipe instead of two?
Cheers,
Darren.
If you can get hold of a Cortina manifold it only has one down pipe so its fairly easy to to get a pipe made up to run to your silencer
Ive seen this on ebay but unfortunately cant see the oulet.

Is that the same as the cortina type?
Yep, defo very similar to my cortina one.
The outlet is between no 3and4 cylinders and points slightly backwards.
Robin Hood used to do a twin pipe exhaust from manifold to can that bolts straight onto the sierra manifold.

i,m using a capri one now,a lot easier than the seirra ones i butchered to fit,see in wanted section
i have done exactly what you are trying to do
what i did was bought a front pipe off a sierra (flange with 2 pipes into 1 ) cost £20 new from local exhuast suppliers then got some 41mm i/d flexi
pipe cut up the front pipe and modified it with the flexi pipe so now i have just 1 pipe coming out the side instead of 4
i will post some pics of it so its clear how i did it

hi i have took 2 photos for you to have a look at , what i did was keep the flange with about 30mm of tube on and the 2 into 1 part of the exhuast and
joined them with 2 flexi pipes about 250mm long
i was told that for it to run right the exhuast pipes have to be equal in length
hope the photos help
P.s i have about 1 mtr of flexi pipe left over if you want it 41mm i/d

i also made a bracket that bolts to the engine bolt to hold it steady you can see this in photo 1
i made sure i had about 40mm clearance from the steering column aswell
