Hi All,
I have been offered a mondeo with a 2.0 Duratec engine for next to nothing, so I'm considering dropping the engine into my MK Indy.
After hours of searching, I can't really find the information I need for mounting the Duratec engine to a type 9 gearbox. I want to keep it
simple using as many of the standard pinto parts as I can. I would also prefer cable clutch but its not an issue if I have to change to hydrolic.
Is there a thread which explains all the different combinations of Flywheel, clutch and release bearing?
Here are some of the options I have discovered so far.
Raceline - https://www.raceline.co.uk/products/part_section.asp?SectionID=26&CategoryID=1
Rwdmotorsport - http://www.rwdmotorsport.com/bellhousing-accessories.html
Sbdev - http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Duratec/Bellhousings_Clutch%20components.htm
Motorsport-tools - https://www.motorsport-tools.com/escort-mk1-mk2-rwd-duratec-to-ford-gearbox-alloy-bellhousing-cable-clutch.html
retro-ford - http://www.retro-ford.co.uk/shop/content/duratec-type-9-bell-housing-d010
Can somone point me in the right direction and recommend the simpliest and cheapest option please?
Cheers Pete

Might be worth checking out Burton too: https://www.burtonpower.com/bellhousing-ford-duratec-he-type-9-2-0-5speed-bh5.html

Thanks

If you give them a call you'll find RWD very helpful in guiding you through the parts you need to fit the type 9 to the Duratec. Their clutch cable type bell housing is really good value @ £210 so they would be my first port of call.
I think the answer is, dont. Use a MX5 NC (third gen) gearbox instead

Thanks Guys,
If the MX5 NC gearbox is the way to go, why wouldn't I go for the engine as well?
I know I will get the Duratec dirt cheap, but if the mx5 is a better package, I might as well go down that route.
What's better, the Duratec or MX5 engine? It looks like the MX5 engine is slightly more powerful but drivability and tuning is more important.
I will probably go down the megasquirt route for the ECU eventually (as I have it on my other car), but if I can get away with a standard ECU, inlet
manifold etc for now, that would be a bonus.
These are the specs I have found for the two engines.
MX5 (third gen) MZR I4 (LF-VE) - 167 bhp
Duratec 2.0 HE - 143 hp
(I will correct the figures if I have made a mistake).
You would be better using the ST150 engine as it has the dual mass flywheel removed the EGR already blanked off and larger valves for better gas flow,
results in a better engine 150hp out the box.
Obviously need to do the above mods before using it.
Also if you are going t9 route make sure your bell housing has this mod done to it to keep the layshaft in place, bolt in the middle to press on the
end of the layshaft.
