Hi All. Question: I am just about to side draft carbs/Manifold to a Zetec. the gasket I picked up yesterday is profiled as per the orginal Ford Gasket. does this cause a problem when using with Webers.
Is there an alternative. what have others used. It would appear that air travels around the internals of the gasket probably to balance the mixture or something, or is there for some sort of vacumn advance system. just worried this would make balancing webers a nightmare.
any advise welcome

hi, i presume you mean the original aluminium gasket with rubber around the ports?
the injection manifold has a connection to the oil breather (exhaust side on main block), which feeds to the passageways in the gasket, so the engine "eats its own mess" in terms of spilled oil.
as such the gasket has no function when using carbs. it does disrupt the airflow a little, but is perfectly fine to use. im using one and all good. the alternative would be to buy some gasket paper (id go with 1/32" ) and use the ali gasket as a template.

Thought about trying to make one as this would be the best way to insure each inlet port was kept seperate. Picture of the gasket i bought attached. Is this the same as you have used

not exactly the same, mine doesnt have the "pillar" cut-outs between the ports, each port is a seperate cut. also mine silver with black rubber around ports (may be same - hard to tell from photo). Its from a 1994 1.8 (focus? ).
Should be fairly easy to cut your own - get a compass cutter for the rounded edges, far neater job than scissors.

I bought one from Burton's last month.

Gave them a ring and the guy didn't know which of their gaskets fitted best off the top of his head but went away to check.

Called me back 30 minutes later having gone through their stock until he found one that matched the profile of their webber inlet manifold.

I used a FAI inlet manifold gasket for a ford escort 16v 1997 (these had a cast aluminum inlet rather than the plastic one used on later cars. My gasket has hole cut for each inlet on the head and no connections between ports.

Looks like the std inlet manifold has air bleed between the cylinders as per your gasket (see link) - perhaps for an idle control valve?
