Apologies if this has been covered before (couldn't find any previous reference).
I want to install the usual Type 9 gear lever extension, and have browsed various earlier posts on this topic. Why are the pastic saddles needed? My
extension appears to have a metal fork which fits in place of the original gear lever fork.

Secondly, do I have to knock out the plate at the rear of the ally tail-housing, in order to fit this extension?
If anyone who has already fitted one of these extensions can offer advice, it would be very welcome.

Take the saddle out of the gearbox and fit it to the extension. Knock out the metal plate from the rear of the gearbox. I found a socket extension and a light tap of the hammer did it. Feed the extension through the end of the box, put the new fork onto where the saddle was and bolt it to the box. Bolt on the gearstick, Job done.
Thanks for your reply. Will look at this more carefully.
