I've used the mk3/4 escort / Fiesta discs on the rear of a '7' style car (live axle) before and doing the same again now - if you use relatively light calipers, the overall weight works out at roughly the same as a set of drums. I'm not sure how much weight saving is available in the disc.

I run vw alloy rear calipers and solid cosworth rear discs. Fairly lightweight solution

Just found the weights of the various parts - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=33379

This is for a live axle car and the whole lot fits under 13" wheels (which is one of my main aims with the Striker).

Thread Hijack
Would skimming disks to minimum thickness as original car specs (Maybe a mm less) save enough weight to be acceptable?
Would this mod render the disks more prone to faillure?
Any concerns at MOT time?
Best regards.
