Zetec Heater Flow and Return
Barkalarr - 14/12/13 at 11:23 AM

In a valiant effort to keep me from freezing while driving in this tropical country we live in, I've purchased a westfield heater for my Zetec build.

My Zetec engine was not connected to a heater in it's previous life, so has one end terminated (see below) I'm guessing this is connected to the Heater matrix?

Where does the other end of the heater connect to? I can't seem to find anywhere on the existing pipe work where this would connect into.

Here's a top shot of the existing pipework.

Any ideas?

Edit to add - I think i've found my answer - it's T-ing into the header tank flow pipe.

Top pic is the heater feed from under the thermo housing, this one is 'always hot'

OEM return is into the bypass hose, this ensures rapid heat up of the coolant to the heater.

This is the Ford bypass rail showing the two inlets at the right, one from the thermo housing, one from the heater.

I wouldnt be plumbing it into the header tank!

I'd be looking to move the air inlet too, must suck in lots of very warm air in that position.

As already said for the return from the heater you can just tee into the by-pass or as an alternative tee into the bottom radiator hose.
As long as it is an input going straight into the water pump you will be ok.

the coolent output for the heater matrix is the one under the coil pack (top 2 pics) the return needs to go to the bottom hose/waterpump inlet
