Zetec front crank seal replacement
birdii - 11/6/13 at 10:50 AM

Having some trouble with the crankshaft oil seal on my zetec. It’s the timing belt end seal, I replaced it when I swapped the oil pump to be certain of leak free running but struggled to fit the seal and quite soon found that I made a pigs ear of the job when oil pissed out!

Second attempt, I made a sleeve to go over the crank to aid fitting which worked perfectly only this time the seal pushed into the oil pump housing by finger pressure only!

Not sure if I should take the pump off, remove the seal again and put some goop around the OD or sacrifice another seal and try a new one.

Any advice is welcome!

Cheers

are you using a genuine Ford seal? some times when you put them on the little spring retainer flips over or dosnt seat right and they leak oil

The new seals have been from Burton Power.

Yep i flipped the inner lip on the first seal which caused the leak. For the second attempt i made up a tapered guide sleeve for the inner, worked a treat but was just worried at how easy the seal pushed into the oil pump housing.

Put it all back together so i will soon see if its no good!

Cheers

Lubricate the seal inner lips before fitting
