Evening all,
I have purchased a new project, a Raw Striker
It currently has a RS turbo engine fitted, which is fine and is quick even at low boost
The engine has been tuned with bigger injectors/rebuilt turbo.
I have a 2.0 zetec which is in my shed, I am wondering if I should put this to good
use, assuming the existing cvh is good and making good power would you guys change it?
How much is involved will the engine mountings and clutch/flywheel etc need to be changed?
Also would the zetec bottom end by an option on the cvh top end.
Just wondering if its a worth while change and best route from your experience.

i'd leave the RS turbo in more power and torque
Rebuild the zetec with forged pistons and lower compresion ratio. When the cvh goes bang hou are ready to fit zetec bottom end

The turbo would stay (I love them) either way, the car also has a very nice charge cooler set up which I
would also use.

May as well enjoy it as it is, but build the zetec as a winter project for when the cvh lets go.

Believe they can have 'sludge' issues and benefit from Quality synthetic oil and regular changes.
I'd just have some fun with the current set up and then perhaps make a plan during the Autumn ?
Depends on condition spec and what its boosting at.

Got any photos? I'm in the middle of rebuilding a car with one would be interesting to see how its plumbed in.
8psi is the max boost on standard ecu without a chip or bleed valve

If you wanted to you could ZVH it, a full blown zetec turbo would be better but since you already have all the top end gubbins you keep them and fit
the bigger capacity 2.0 zetec block.
Years ago Specialised Engines charged a fortune for the 1.9 tall block imported from the U.S for bigger capacity RS Turbo power but nowadays they go
for buttons because the zetec bottom ends are ten a penny.
Fair bit of fettling required and a few bits and bobs to buy but it's by no means difficult, this is a good site for reference.

There's nothing wrong with a well looked after CVH turbo, they are as reliable as any engine. The only issue is with poor oil feed to one of the
cam lobes - hence the 'sludge' and 'tappy' comments they're always tarnished with.
A healthy bar of boost on standard turbo will make for a very quick car and will not be stretching the engine or turbo by any means (plenty run
18-20psi). They usually put out around 180-190bhp at this boost level. Of course the relevant tweeks are needed to the fueling/management at this
boost level.
I'd just keep running it and in the meantime gather the bits ready to do a zetec turbo just incase.

Well I've just finished doing this exact conversion!

My Westfield had a Fiesta RS Turbo engine in it with a larger T3 turbo from a cossie. It was running the standard Fiesta Turbo EFI inlet manifold,
ecu, 8 psi boost and CVH turbo exhaust manifold.
Over the winter I converted it to 2.0 silver-top zetec turbo with Fiesta RS1800 Zetec inlet manifold and throttle body, Vauxhall VXR injectors, and
Megasquirt 3 ecu.
I'd budgeted around a £1100 for the project, but in the end I went further with it than I'd planned and the total figure (after selling the
CVH stuff) was around £2100. However this did include new clutch & flywheel, £500 worth of Megasquirt ECU, re-wiring engine bay, Wideband lambda
stuff and a Raceline sump.
Would I do it again, if I'd have know of the final cost....? Hmmm, tough one.
Some things to consider...
- your inlet and exhaust manifolds will not bolt straight to the Zetec head. They can be made to fit with adaptor plates, but I bought the exhaust
manifold adaptor plate as that was my intention, and the port alignment was terrible. Exhaust flow would have been restricted too much for my liking
so I sold the adaptor plate and used a CVH manifold with the CVH flange cut off, and a Zetec flange welded on - port aligment is perfect, and it meant
that the turbo was pretty much in the same place as before, so I could use the existing exhaust.
- alternator is on the opposite side on a zetec. I couldn't make the CVH one fit so that was an alternator and mounting kit that I hadn't
budgeted for.
- engine mounts. On the Westfield the passenger mount is essentially the same, but a new drivers side mount was required.
- clutch/flywheel. I changed from a CVH EFI flywheel and a Mk2 escort clutch to a Zetec 1.8 flywheel and Pinto 2.0 clutch. These were new and the
flywheel was drilled to accept the Pinto clutch. There are many different opinions on the best clutch/flywheel combo for a RWD Zetec, so lots of ways
to do it and maybe you can keep your existing set up. I had to change though, as the clutch that the CVH was using was only 190mm, so wouldn't
have lasted long anyway.
- starter motor. No problem, still using CVH starter.
Been running for a month now and clocked up 1500 miles.
Running 11.5 psi boost and self mapped using Megasquirt software.
Seems much more torquey low down than the CVH turbo did. Obviously it's more powerful/quicker. I'm actually really enjoying messing about
with the Megasquirt software and learning lots.

My charge cooler good question i,m not sure but it seems to keep the temps down as it has a temp
sensor fitted.

Yes i noticed a lack of torque at lower revs my turbo zetec was such a rush from 2000rpm.
This is ok though i,m looking for a little more boost already

Yes, sure - feel free to msg me about the zetec turbo build. I'm still tweaking a few small things even now, for example I've just got the
VDO rev counter to run off the megasquirt ecu. It wasn't straight forward but got there in the end!
