Vauxhall 16V - manifold without rust!
Steve Lovelock - 18/9/04 at 05:58 AM

I am looking for an exhaust manifold system for a Vauxhall 16V and Luego Velocity. I am considering a Yukspeed kit made from steel which I would need to assemble and paint with high temp paint. However, I don’t want a really rusty manifold on display, will this approach work?

If not, any ideas (considering that I am not the Bank of England)?

If you can afford the time to be patient, keep an eye on www.blatchat.com - the wesite of the lotus seven club. This type of thing comes up there regularly. Even post looking for one and you may get lucky. The westfield OC website is similarly useful.

Hi Steve,

I'v never had a lot of luck with high temp paints.

I made a can for my bike a couple of years ago,
temper coloured it and sprayed it with high temp lacquer.
It said on the can it would withstand 750C, but at the hot end it peeled off within weeks. (see pic)
Maybe paint is better, but I'v never found one that works. Manifolds get f*****g hot.
Stainless maybe????

Steve

My Velocity with an XE has just gone to Power Speed today for a full stainless polished system with repackabe silencer.

I am paying £650. Have a look at this link.

I decided it seemed crazy to spend £8K building a car and stick a crap exhaust on it. For a start iot would look crap and secondly wouldn't do much for the power delivery.

By all accounts exhausts are a bit of an art. For a braod spread of torque you want long primarries, then into two short secondaries then into silencer. Don't go for 4-1 unless you want all your power at the top of the rev range.

I will post some pics on the weekend hopefully when it is done.

Forgot to say, I am having mine go through the side panel as well, rather than through the bonnet.

More info I forgot to mention, EBD quoted 850+VAT, Wunoff was £1200, I have been quoted up to £2K.

If you takie into account that a repackable silencer is £200,and clamps etc another £50, then £400 for a custom stainless manifold is bloody good if you ask me.

photo of new exhaust as promised.

More in my archive.

exhaust looks good, but where are the brackets for your headlights going to be?

On the velocity they use a bar which extends across the chassis, and is clamped in place on the two chassis diagonals in front of the engine.

I assume this allows you to adjust the angle for both headlights by rotating the bar.

Answers;

1) I suppose!
2) Haven't done them yet!

My priority at the moment is to get those carbs sucking!
